John Cardarelli II, President-elect, Health Physics Society 2020-2021, will address the Cascade, Columbia and Northern California Chapters of the HPS in a virtual meeting format.  The title of his talk will be  "Is it time to rethink applying LNT for low dose environments?"  President-elect Cardarelli will also provide updates from HPS leadership on the society's accomplishments during the COVID era.

President-elect John Cardarelli is a Research Health Physicist with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. He has nearly 30 years working in various radiological fields with the Centers for Disease Control and the Environmental Protection Agency, including epidemiology, exposure assessment, risk communication, emergency response, environmental characterization and cleanup policies, aerial and ground-based wide-area characterization, dose reconstructions and non-ionizing radiation. He also is an Assistant Adjunct Professor at the University of Cincinnati, College of Medicine, Department of Environmental Health and recently retired as a Captain from the U.S. Public Health Service.

He received his B.S. in Nuclear Engineering, an M.S. in Health Physics and Ph.D. in Industrial Hygiene/Environmental Health from the University of Cincinnati. He holds a Professional Engineering License (nuclear specialty), and is board certified in both Industrial Hygiene and Health Physics.

His presentation will address why he feels it is time to move beyond using LNT for low-dose and low-dose rate environments for radiation protection and summarize news about recent HPS accomplishments, upcoming meetings, our support to academic institutions over the years, and the latest updates to the 2021-2022 strategic plan. A discussion session will follow to listen to your chapter needs so he can bring any message back to the HPS leadership.
